Safer, More Efficient Tyre Handling for a Busy Service Centre
Coveya recently worked with a car service centre looking to improve the way tyres were transported between their shop floor and mezzanine area. With heavy tyres being manually lifted and carried, the business needed a safer, more efficient solution that would reduce physical stress on their employees while improving workflow and health and safety standards across the site.
The Challenge
To maximise the space on their workshop floor, the garage stored their tyres on a mezzanine level. This helped create more working space, but it also introduced heavy manual handling needs on a daily basis for their staff.
Every tyre being delivered or retrieved had to be physically carried between floors. This slowed operations down and also created unnecessary strain on employees, increasing the risk of workplace injuries. The customer needed a solution to:
- Eliminate repetitive manual lifting
- Improve health and safety on site
- Speed up tyre movement between floors
- Fit into the workshop without taking up valuable space
- Provide a reliable, long-term fix
Following a site visit, Coveya created a compact conveyor solution tailored to the building’s layout. It features a steep 40° incline conveyor positioned neatly along a wall to minimise its footprint within the workshop. Tyres glide safely from ground level to the mezzanine, where a 90° roller conveyor then guides them directly into the storage area.
To keep things simple, cost-effective and easy to maintain, only one of the conveyors is powered. The bespoke system delivered a practical solution that resolved the manual handling issue and integrated seamlessly into the space.
The Result
The customer is extremely pleased and has been using the system successfully for over a year. They see it as a valuable long-term addition to their business. By streamlining tyre handling and reducing manual labour, the conveyor system has helped create a safer, more productive working environment with minimal disruption to the existing site layout.
