Supporting Repair Works on Railway Lines Near the River Parrett
Coveya was contacted by the main contractor completing repair works to the railway alongside the River Parrett. They needed to shift ballast from the ground level up to an elevated rail line on an embankment.
As the material could only be delivered at road level, they faced the challenge of moving a significant amount of ballast 8m up to rail line level. Conveyors were determined to be the ideal solution, and an experienced team was needed to conduct the work quickly and seamlessly.
Coveya’s Ballast Moving Solution
We started by visiting the site and discussing requirements with the main contractor. Once we’d established the specifications of the project, we recommended two-tracked mobile stockpile conveyors to elevate the ballast up to the required height of 8m.
We arranged the delivery of these hired conveyors as swiftly as possible to avoid project delays and installed them so they could easily be loaded by a large excavator on ground level. The material was then efficiently carried up the embankment to the desired location.
One of the challenges we faced with this project was the remote location of the works required. This meant Coveya had to arrange a power solution for the conveyors with no mains power available on site. We were easily up to the task, supplying each two-track conveyor with a CAT diesel engine for reliable and continuous operation.
A Fast Resolution for a Time-Critical Problem
Our conveyors were easily able to meet deadlines defined by the main contractor, shifting all ballast up to the correct location within a critical 24-hour window. The railway was soon back up and running. Our customer was extremely happy with how smooth and easy it was to work with our team from start to finish, making them yet another success story for our ever-growing list.
