What power supply do I need for my conveyor?

Since conveyors are electrically powered, they’ll need some sort of power supply. Here’s everything you need to know to make sure you’ve got the right power for your conveyor.

Single-phase 110V or 3-phase 415V?

The power supply you use will affect the achievable length of the conveyor: 110V isn’t enough to power our longest conveyors. If you have a long run and you only have 110V available then you’ll need more conveyors.

Also, some of our units don’t come in 110V so if you’re restricted to 110V power supply on your site you’ll have less choice over which type of conveyor to use.

How long can my power cable be?

If you’re running on 110V, you’ll need to consider the distance between your power supply and the conveyor. As you probably know, voltage will always drop along a length of cable. If you’re running 415V then the voltage drop will be minimal so you don’t need to worry about it. Your conveyor will cope with it. But if you’re running 110V then the motor will struggle if the voltage drops too much.

We recommend using a maximum 20m length of cable at 110V to prevent your motor from burning out. A replacement motor is expensive but not as expensive as downtime on your site, so we want to make sure that doesn’t happen.

What if I have no power supply at all?

If you don’t have a power supply available (or if you have 110V but you need more) then you’ll need a generator. We have a range of generators for hire and can help you choose the right one for your project.
